At Just 13, Young Author Gives Voice to a Generation

Seemal Rahman, an eighth-grade student at the Indian School Bahrain, is making her mark in the literary world with the release of her debut book, ‘POV: Point of View of a Teenager’. The young author, known for her love of writing, public speaking, travel and observation, has channelled her reflections on modern teenage life into a compelling volume now drawing regional attention.

At just 13 years old, Seemal Rahman has achieved something many adults dream of, she has published a book. But ‘POV (Point of View of a Teenager)’ is not just another student project. It is a bold, heartfelt message from a young writer determined to be heard. Written with honesty and gentle humour, the book reflects the realities of current age teenagers, highlighting the generation gap that often causes adults to overlook or misunderstand the concerns of today’s teenagers.

The book saw its official international release earlier this month at the Sharjah International Book Fair, followed by a Bahrain launch led by PMA Gafoor during the Ardram programme at K City, Salmaniya.

A keen observer and passionate diary writer, Seemal draws inspiration from everyday interactions and the emotions she notices around her. Speaking to The Daily Tribune, she said that in POV, she challenges stereotypes about her generation, from being labelled ‘lost’ to assumptions about technology dependence and instead highlights the kindness, resilience, and emotional awareness she sees in her peers.

The book also tackles the mixed expectations teenagers face at home and in school, as well as the often-overlooked issue of bullying. Seemal calls for greater seriousness from families and educators, urging them to create safe spaces where students can speak openly and be heard. Her message to those affected is clear and reassuring: their experiences are not their fault and do not define them.

Driven by honest reflections captured in her diary, and motivated by repeated negative remarks about her generation, she wrote the book in just one month, presenting a sincere and relatable account of the challenges today’s youth navigate.

If you ever wondered what life looks like from a teenager’s point of view today, then this young author, Seemal, invites readers to do exactly that.
