Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept Wins Silver at 2025 IDEA Awards
The Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept has been awarded the Silver Award in the Automotive & Transportation category at the 2025 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
The PV5 WKNDR Concept is part of Kia’s new Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) lineup and is designed as a fully self-sufficient adventure van. Its highly flexible, modular interior allows users to maximize space and functionality, while the innovative ‘Gear Head’ provides off-board storage for equipment when the vehicle is stationary. The Gear Head can also be converted into a mobile pantry, perfect for cooking enthusiasts seeking outdoor experiences.
Sustainability is at the core of the PV5 WKNDR, featuring solar panels and hydro turbine wheels that recharge batteries even in remote locations. The interior incorporates eco-friendly materials, including Nike Grind flooring made from recycled sneakers, combining functionality with environmental responsibility.
Commenting on the award, Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design, said, “Recognition from IDEA is a great honor and highlights the impact of Kia's ‘Opposites United’ philosophy in shaping our future design vision. Awards like this motivate our global team to continue innovating and delivering products that are meaningful to our customers.”
The International Design Excellence Awards, presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America, have celebrated outstanding design for nearly 50 years. Evaluated by over 40 multidisciplinary judges, IDEA Awards assess products based on innovation, aesthetics, and benefits to users, society, and the brand, ensuring recipients are recognized for comprehensive and forward-thinking design.
