The draw for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 takes place this evening in Diriyah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at Salwa Palace, setting the stage for one of Asia’s most closely watched football tournaments.

The ceremony will bring together representatives from the Asian Football Confederation, FIFA, and all 24 qualified nations as anticipation builds across the continent ahead of the competition.

Saudi Arabia will host the tournament from 7 January to 5 February 2027, with matches scheduled across Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar. With continental powerhouses in the mix, this edition is expected to be highly competitive from the outset.

Bahrain will be represented at the draw by an official delegation as it prepares to learn its group-stage opponents. Placed in Pot 3 alongside Thailand, China, Palestine, Vietnam, and Tajikistan, Bahrain is guaranteed to avoid these sides in the group stage while drawing one opponent from each of the other pots.

Pot 1 features hosts Saudi Arabia alongside Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, and Uzbekistan. Pot 2 includes Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Syria. Pot 4 consists of Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, North Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and the playoff winner between Lebanon and Yemen.

Bahrain arrives with a history of competitive performances in the tournament, most notably its fourth-place finish in 2004 in China. In recent years, the team has shown consistency at continental level, including a solid group-stage campaign in 2023.

With the draw set, Bahrain will now wait to see how its road to the 2027 tournament unfolds and whether it can mount another memorable run on Asia’s biggest stage.
