Son Heung-min Announces Departure from Spurs After Decade of Service

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has confirmed he will leave the club this summer, bringing a memorable 10-year spell in North London to a close.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul, the 33-year-old South Korean said the decision to part ways was “one of the most difficult” of his career. “I gave my all to the team every single day,” Son said. “By winning the Europa League, I thought I’d done everything I could and achieved.”

Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and quickly became a fan favourite, known for his pace, work ethic, and lethal finishing. He captained the side to Europa League glory in May, helping the club lift their first trophy in 17 years. The forward leaves with 454 appearances and 173 goals to his name, along with a Premier League Golden Boot won in the 2021–22 season.

While he remains under contract until 2026, Son’s next destination is yet to be confirmed. Reports in the UK have linked him with a move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.

Spurs manager Thomas Frank praised Son as “a true Spurs legend,” adding: “It’s never easy to find that perfect timing, but I think this is it—going out on a high.”

Son leaves Tottenham not just as a club icon, but as one of Asia’s greatest-ever exports to European football.
