Jordan Henderson is back in the Premier League. The former Liverpool captain has signed a two-year deal with Brentford following his exit from Dutch side Ajax, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old midfielder, who left Liverpool in 2023 for a brief stint in Saudi Arabia before moving to Ajax, brings veteran leadership to a Brentford squad looking to rebuild after losing captain Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Henderson said. “It was an easy decision in the end. I’m excited to get started and help the younger players, but I know I’ve still got to deliver on the pitch too.”

Henderson made 57 appearances for Ajax but cut his contract short by mutual agreement. His return to England marks the end of a two-year spell abroad,  and a fresh chapter in West London.

He also earned a surprise recall to the England squad earlier this year under new manager Thomas Tuchel, keeping the door open for more national team minutes.

Back in the Prem, and ready for one more run, Henderson isn’t done just yet.
