MP Jalal Kadhem has proposed a new law that would grant Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) inspectors broader access to workplaces across both the public and private sectors.

The proposed legislation, titled “Empowering Labour Inspectors,” aims to address the growing concern of labour violations, particularly among foreign workers, and ensure a more stable and equitable labour market for all.

“The increasing number of foreign workers in Bahrain necessitates stricter enforcement of labour laws,” MP Kadhem stated.

“This proposed law will empower LMRA inspectors to access all workplaces, including those with security guards, government buildings, and private companies, regardless of their nature or industry.”

The proposed law emphasises the importance of verifying the data and records of foreign workers, including their employment contracts, to ensure they have valid work permits and are not in violation of any regulations.

“It is crucial to ensure that foreign workers are employed legally and ethically,” MP Kadhem stressed.

“This will not only protect their rights but also create a fairer and more competitive environment for all businesses operating in Bahrain.”

The proposed law also aims to expedite the process of rectifying labour violations and taking legal action against violators.

By granting inspectors the authority to take immediate action, the LMRA will be able to address violations more effectively and deter future offenses.

“This proposed legislation is a crucial step towards ensuring a stable and prosperous labour market in Bahrain,” MP Kadhem concluded.

“By protecting the rights of both employers and employees, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.”

The proposed law is expected to be debated in the Parliament in the coming weeks.
