Bahrainis are growing increasingly concerned about the rising number of unemployed medical professionals, a situation that is causing significant distress within the community.

The issue of financial insecurity looms large over the high number of doctors who are currently working on temporary contracts in the Kingdom.

This confluence of factors has led to a heightened sense of urgency and a pressing need for effective solutions to tackle the unemployment crisis among medical professionals.

According to reliable sources, the current estimate suggests the number of unemployed medicine graduates to be in the vicinity of 300 individuals. However, this number grows alarmingly when the entirety of healthcare workers facing similar circumstances is factored in.

Considering that Bahrainis make up no more than 30% of the labour force in private hospitals, according to recent figures, the problem becomes much more troubling.

Zahra Fadhel, an unemployed medicine graduate who struggled with mood-related issues, stated to the Daily Tribune: “The plight of unemployed health professionals is undeniably distressing, as they grapple with significant challenges that can have a profound impact on their mental health. The unfortunate consequence of unemployment among highly skilled professionals is the increased prevalence of mood-related disorders.”

“The toll that joblessness takes on healthcare professionals’ mental health cannot be overstated, since their welfare affects not just them personally but also the larger healthcare system. By implementing effective support systems, offering counselling services, and creating pathways for these individuals to regain their rightful place as respected members of society, we can address this critical issue and promote their dignified reintegration.”

Another health professional stated to The Daily Tribune. Jameel Humaidan, the minister of labour, recently pledged to solve the alarming issue of unemployed healthcare workers.

He has promised to present all-encompassing policies aimed at the inclusion of these qualified experts into the labour force.

This proactive approach demonstrates the government's dedication to resolving the issue and ensuring that these healthcare workers can contribute their expertise to the betterment of society.
