Man gets five years in jail for attacking cop
The High Criminal Court has sentenced a defendant to five years in prison for attacking a police officer during a demonstration in Jidhafs.
According to reports, around 170 masked protesters rioted in Jidhafs on May 30 last year and the attacked officer was with security forces stationed in the area. The miscreants attacked police officers with firebombs and iron rods, and as a result the officer was injured.
The defendant was arrested at the scene by the police while he was trying to flee.
He was said to have been wearing an armour and gloves as well as a mask. He was charged with attacking police officers and causing injuries to him.
