The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has presented proposals to address the most important challenges facing expatriate workers during the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). In its virtual presentation entitled “The Bahraini role in protecting expatriate workers’ rights during the coronavirus pandemic”, the institution discussed its role in protecting the expatriates’ rights and the best ways of co-operation between official authorities and relevant civil society entities to ensure the workers’ rights and adherence to precautionary measures.

NIHR chairperson Maria Khoury expressed appreciation of Bahrain’s great efforts to combat the pandemic and preserve citizens' and residents’ human rights without any discrimination. Aside from the pandemic impact on expatriate workers, NIHR also highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to protect human rights in general and health rights in particular for everyone.
