Working Group holds key meeting

The Working Group on Increasing the Representation of the Kingdom in International Organisations held its first meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ General Court, under the chairmanship of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs and the participation of team members from relevant government entities. 

At the beginning of the meeting, the Undersecretary for International Affairs welcomed the team members, outlining the main steps to be taken in order for the team to carry out all its duties and tasks, stressing the need to unify efforts to achieve the objectives hoped for. Dr Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa stressed the pivotal and central role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in enhancing the working mechanism and the role of the government team to serve the Kingdom’s approaches at the regional and international levels.

He also affirmed that the objective of increasing the Kingdom’s representation in regional and international organisations as well as employing cadres and holding leading roles in said organisations is in line with the government plans and its Economic Vision 2030.  The Undersecretary for International Affairs noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken crucial steps to enhance the national presence in the membership of regional and international organisations.

In this regard, he also pointed out holding a specialised workshop on a fruitful participation at the UNGA in partnership with “Tamkeen” in order to equip national cadres with the qualifications needed in this field, and in cooperation with UNITAR. The Undersecretary for International Affairs stressed the importance of partnerships that develop the national cadres and equip them with qualifications and experiences as well as offering proper training opportunities that would make them an ideal choice for international organisations. 

He also emphasised that the strategic investment in humans as well as enhancing international cooperation and communication shall enhance the status and reputation of the Kingdom of Bahrain abroad, in line with the reform approach of His Majesty the King.
