Sheema bint Nasser returns endangered turtle to sea

Shaikha Sheema bint Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa released a rare turtle found on a beach in Bahrain into the sea, after ensuring that it was treated and rehabilitated. The age of turtle that Shaikha Sheema was concerned on returning to its natural environment is estimated to be between 60 and 80 years.

It is known as the ‘Loggerhead Turtle”; an endangered species of turtles whose original habitat is believed to be the Kingdom, especially that studies show that turtles usually return to its natural habitat even if they leave for long periods.  The turtle was released into its natural environment once again after it received complete care and treatment from the experts and officials of the Supreme Council for Environment.

On this occasion, Shaikha Sheema asserted on her concern about wildlife, especially marine environment, which is anciently related to the name of Bahrain, saying: “I am very interested in the marine life. I have learned that from my father HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee. My father constantly motivated us to care for the environment. This was translated into my care for this turtle, which is considered as one of the endangered species in the world.”
