You’re not in queue. Walk in and walk out with your test results
Manama
You may be experiencing delays in getting medical results at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). Such delays, however, will become a thing of the past as a comprehensive system is being put in place to speed up the process.
This became evident when the health ministry recently directed SMC to implement a comprehensive system for national health information across its laboratories.
To begin with laboratories at the SMC have been connected to 60 analyser devices. These devices automatically allow the updation of test results in a jiffy with absolute accuracy.
The health ministry, in fact, had made a pilot run of the system earlier by deploying the automated system in the biochemistry and hematology laboratories at the SMC.
The performance of the system proved satisfactory since the system not only hastened up patients’ access to test results but also allowed the doctors to flip through their medical records at the click of a button.
The electronic format of patient file, health ministry officials claimed also enable the doctors to go in for quick diagnosis which in turn lead to accurate treatment ensuring the overall well-being of the patients.
The rolling out of the new system across the SMC laboratories would certainly be a boon to the patients as it significantly reduces the waiting period in obtaining the test results.
The new measure will also take a chunk of the workload off the shoulders of the medical staff, particularly, the lab technicians who would now be in a position to enhance their output and quality
Interestingly, the Supreme Council of Health had earlier directed SMC and other health centres to implement a comprehensive information system encompassing all the laboratories.
The Supreme Council of Health had embarked upon such a bold move to synchronise the activities of various medical branches to bring about a quicker, effective and holistic treatment process with patients as the prime focus.
