Netanyahu Reveals He Had Prostate Cancer and Underwent Radiation Therapy
Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that he was recently treated for prostate cancer, saying doctors found the disease at an early stage and that follow-up tests now show no evidence of cancer.
The 76-year-old leader said he underwent radiation therapy and described himself as healthy in a statement released Friday.
According to medical reports released by his office, imaging scans and blood tests after treatment showed the cancer had “disappeared,” though Netanyahu will continue regular monitoring.
The disclosure came alongside his annual health report, which also noted that he has had a pacemaker since 2023 and remains in what doctors described as excellent physical condition.
Netanyahu acknowledged delaying the announcement of his diagnosis for two months, saying he did not want to release personal medical information during Israel’s war with Iran.
The cancer revelation also shed new light on a surgical procedure he underwent in December 2024. At the time, officials had said the operation was linked to a urinary tract issue caused by prostate enlargement.
Doctors now said a later MRI scan detected a suspicious lesion in the prostate, leading to further tests and treatment. They added there was no sign the disease had spread.
Netanyahu has published annual medical reports for years under Israeli government transparency guidelines.
