Prisoners from Bahrain and Pakistan may soon be allowed to serve their sentences in their home countries under a new law set to be reviewed by Parliament.

The proposal, issued under a royal decree, will come up in the next parliamentary session and aims to formalise an agreement between the two countries on transferring convicted persons.

Officials say the move would help prisoners stay closer to their families, supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf Ministry said the plan follows international practice and similar agreements signed by Bahrain.

Transfers would take place only with the consent of both countries and the prisoner, and after a final court ruling.

Most of the costs in - volved would be covered by the country receiving the prisoner.

The National Institution for Human Rights has backed the proposal, saying it is in line with the Constitution and international standards.

Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee has recommended approval of the draft law.
