NEW DELHI: Fresh violence has erupted in the troubled Indian state of Manipur, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals during intense clashes between rival ethnic groups. The incident occurred in the Jiribam district, an area that has seen a recent escalation in tension despite months of heavy security presence across the region.
Local authorities report that the latest skirmishes involved armed insurgents and local volunteers, leading to a breakdown in the fragile peace maintained in the border district. Security forces have since intensified patrols and conducted search operations to recover weapons and prevent further retaliatory strikes.
Manipur has been gripped by ethnic conflict since May last year, with over 200 lives lost and thousands displaced. This recent surge in fatalities underscores the persistent instability in the North-East, as government mediation efforts struggle to bridge the deep-seated communal divide and restore long-term order.
