Bahrain’s football season reaches its climax today as Riffa and Muharraq meet in the 49th King's Cup final, with silverware, rivalry, and a major financial prize all on the line.
Beyond the trophy, both sides are also competing for a significant financial reward. The winners will earn BHD 100,000, while the runners-up receive BHD 50,000, bringing the total prize pool to BHD 150,000, according to the Bahrain Football Association.
The prize structure, unchanged for the fourth consecutive year, underlines the competition’s continued importance in Bahraini football and its role in maintaining high competitive standards. With both glory and financial reward at stake, the final is expected to be played at a high tempo.
Kick-off is set for 5:20pm at the National Stadium in Riffa, with a strong turnout anticipated for one of the standout fixtures on the domestic calendar.
The match brings together two of Bahrain’s most successful clubs, adding another chapter to a rivalry that has often shaped key moments in the Kingdom’s football history. The sides are already well acquainted this season, having drawn both league meetings 1–1. They also met in the Khalid bin Hamad Cup final in February, which finished level after 120 minutes before Riffa prevailed on penalties — a result that adds further motivation for the “Red Wolves” in today’s final.
Muharraq arrives with history in sight, aiming for a record-extending 34th King’s Cup title while also hoping to end a competition drought that dates back to the 2019–20 season.
Riffa, on the other hand, are chasing their eighth King’s Cup triumph. They will look to build on their 2020–21 success as they seek to reinforce their status as one of the country's leading cup sides.
