The grass is NOT always greener on the other dude

In the last few weeks if you were watching news, reading the newspapers or following the social media you couldn’t escape the news about Harvey Weinstein’s improper behavior towards actresses and other females around him. The braveness of one whistle blower brought about the “MeToo” campaign. A lot of women felt compelled to finally break the silence and talk. There are around 80 sexual abuse allegations against Weinstein only.

Watching , reading and hearing all the commotion about men’s sexual harassment of women in the so called developed countries, brought my bitterness in the face of their hypocrisy to the forefront.

As soon as Middle East women or any other third world country is mentioned, the synonymous is “these women are used only as sex object. They are oppressed and depressed. Men in their community don’t value or respect them”.

I always got a bit of blood pressure when somebody said that to me. I was like “sure , there are men that don’t treat the female around them right. Like anywhere else in the world. But in my view it’s you who treat women as sex object. Your ads for even a toothpaste doesn’t run without a scanty dressed woman. Majority of your magazines are full of semi naked women. And on top of that even the equality of pay which legally should be there doesn’t exist.”.

And now this MeToo movement clarified how women have been abused in communities and circles that one never thought it could happen. But honestly with a rape or sexual assault record of 1 in 5 women we shouldn’t be surprised. And that’s only for reported cases. Funny enough they get shocked hearing about rape in Afghanistan or Pakistan where men hardly see and mingle with women!!!

The bottom line, my advise to me middle eastern female counter parts is “the grass is not always greener on the other side”.
