Faber-Castell Spectra held in Bahrain

ManamaThe Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF), under the patronage of the Embassy of India, held this year’s art carnival entitled ‘Faber Castell - Spectra 2017’ at the Indian School yesterday.  

The event was inaugurated by P K Chowdry, Second Secretary at the Embassy of India, in the presence of ICRF Chairman Bhagwan Asarpota, ICRF General Secretary Aruldas Thomas, Spectra Convener U K Menon, Spectra Joint Convener Mrs Rosaline Charlie, Indian School Chairman Prince Natarajan, Indian School Secretary Shemily John, Indian School Principal Palaniswamy, Keraleeya Samajam President Radhakrishna Pillai, Keraleeya Samajam Secretary N K Veeramani, Prime Sponsor Faber Castell representative Aneesh and other ICRF volunteers.

Around 1,300 children from various schools in Bahrain partook in the competition after being selected in the preliminary rounds organized in their respective schools.   This annual event was aimed at unearthing artistic talents among the youth and creating a future generation who would be catalysts for social change. 

Participants were divided into four age groups - five to eight years, eight to eleven years, eleven to thirteen years and fourteen to eighteen years. 

The results will be announced and the winners will be honoured during the finale to be held on November 25, 2017 evening at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Diamond  Jubilee  Hall, Segaiya.

The art carnival aims at encouraging and honouring artistic skills among the youth. It is the largest art competition for students in the Kingdom of Bahrain. 

This is the 9th annual art carnival by ICRF, the first one was held in the year 2009 with around 700 participants.   More than 150 tireless volunteers helped in making the event a success.

The winning entries and other outstanding creations by the children will figure in the Wall Calendars and Desk-Top Calendars designed for the year 2018. 

These calendars will be launched at the finale function by Alok Kumar Sinha, Ambassador of India to Bahrain on November 25.  

A large number of each of these calendars will be made available to educational institutions, clubs, associations and businesses.

Faber Castell is the prime sponsor of the event that has provided all the artwork materials. Participating students were allowed to take home the materials after the competition.

Net proceeds from the competition will go towards a Family Welfare Fund to provide relief to support the families of deceased Indian labourers drawing wages below BD100 per month.
