German Law Applied in Bahrain Divorce Case

A Bahraini court granted divorce to an Italian woman and German man after a 15-year marriage, applying German law to the case.
The Second High Civil Court ruled that Bahraini courts had jurisdiction despite both parties being foreign nationals. The court found that the required separation period under German law had been met.
The father was ordered to pay 2,958 monthly in child support for the couple’s two children, in addition to their actual school expenses. He was also ordered to pay his former wife 3,400 monthly for five years.
The children will remain primarily with their mother under joint parental authority, while the father was granted visitation on alternating weekends and public holidays.
The court also applied Germany’s matrimonial property regime but deferred the division of assets because the couple had not provided complete financial disclosures.
