Human rights panel meeting held

ManamaAssistant Foreign Minister, Abdulla bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri chaired the 19th meeting of the High Coordination Committee for Human Rights at the General Court of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.

The Committee discussed issues related to Bahrain’s obligations towards treaty mechanisms and the Human Rights Council, reviewing Bahrain’s submission of the third national report of the Universal Periodic Review and the second and third reports of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

It examined all communications and appeals to Bahrain concerning all human rights issues. The meeting also discussed a number of national reports under preparation, such as the report of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the report on the Rights of the Child, the report on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the report on combating racial discrimination.

The Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed that respect for human rights and dignity is a consistent strategic approach within the framework of the continuous reform process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the government’s wise efforts to develop and modernize national legislations in accordance with the Constitution and international covenants.
