Three teens jailed for robbing elderly man

ManamaThe High Criminal Court has sentenced three teenagers to one year behind bars each for threatening a man in his seventies and robbing BD5 from him.

The incident happened last February when the 73-year-old man was heading to a phone shop. When he arrived at the shop, the trio was attempting to sell a phone to the owner who declined their offer. And they turned to the elderly man and offered it to him too. But he refused and walked out of the shop. However, the teenagers followed him to his car and the first defendant, aged 18, opened the passenger door and seated beside him. He threatened to punch him, while his co-defendants were monitoring the road. The 73-year-old man tried to flee, but the first defendant managed to steal his wallet, which was containing only BD5. The victim informed the police about the incident and they got caught after the 73-year-old established their identity with the help of a photo line-up.

It was found out that the 18-year-old first defendant was held guilty in 18 criminal cases, while his second co-defendant, also aged 18, had 11 convictions against him.

The third defendant, aged 17, was convicted on 18 occasions.
