Banks charging clients unfairly, says MP

ManamaA Bahraini has accused banks of “unjustly” charging their clients without informing them.

The allegations were made by MP Theyab Al Nuaimi in his queries to the Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

“Some banks are deducting amounts from their clients’ accounts without giving any proper clarification,” Al Nuami claimed.

Explaining, he said that some of the banks in the Kingdom are charging their clients when their account balance falls below BD20.

“We need to know which laws in the Kingdom allow the banks to do so,” Al Nuami demanded in his query to the minister.

“We hope that you will inform us about the legality of this procedure by pointing out the law on which these bank procedures are based,” said the MP, who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee in the House of Representatives.

He also stressed that it is the right of the people to know the legal validity of the law which allows these banks to deduct money from their account without giving any formal
explanation.
