Eldarov dominates Gomes with ease

ManamaKhalid Hamad Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (KHK MMA) team member Eldar Eldarov defeated Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Henrique ‘Rasputin’ Gomes in a lightweight bout in Brave 6 Kazakhstan last weekend at the Halyk Arena in the ancient capital of Almaty.

Brave Combat Federation, Mixed Martial Arts event founded under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and the very first global sports promotion in the Kingdom of Bahrain, saw the Degastam Russia born fighter who has settled in Bahrain win his Brave 6 bout after imposing himself physically and Technically as he finished the fight within the first round.

Prior to the fight, Eldarov had to make a tough weight cut in his first attempt at making 70.7kg, the lightweight division limit with the one-pound tolerance for non-title bouts.

In the cage, Eldarov started the fight putting pressure over Henrique and taking the opponent against the fence. Taking advantage of being the stronger one, he took the Brazilian down and quickly finished the combat with a vicious sequence of elbows, that made the referee Scott Manhardt interfere and stop the fight, declaring the Russian-Bahraini the winner by technical knockout.

After the triumph, Eldarov’s first words on the microphone went to Shaikh Khalid. “Shaikh, we did it and with your support, I was able to come here and get the win. I’d like to thank you for the amazing effort and support to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and personally for me as an athlete. This is something very, very important for me and part of the successful athlete I am today. I know you are watching, so thank you we did it!”, said the fighter.

Eldarov also used his mic time to as Brave president Mohammad Shahid for a title-shot. “Also, I’d like to send a message to the Brave president, Mohammad Shahid. Shahid, you told me if I moved down one division and got a win, I’d fight for the title next. Well, I’ve done it and I’m here, ready to get that beautiful belt, the most beautiful belt in the whole world. Make it happen!”.

Local promoters thanked Shaikh Khalid for his initiative in bringing Brave to Kazakhstan, “We can’t say anything but thank you to Shaikh Khalid”, said Merkhat Abilov, representing the local promotion Qazaq FC. 

“Brave will be a path through which diplomatic and economic relations will be established between Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. We are sure about that”, he stated.

Chairman of the Kazakhstan Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Mikail Nadirov focused on the sport’s impact caused by the arrival of an international event like Brave in Kazakhstan.

“We know Brave has this transforming power and impacts in a very positive way all the countries it’s visited so far. It won’t be different in Kazakhstan. The event was very successful in terms of fan engagement, audience attendance, and athletes interest. We really look forward for the next Brave in Kazakhstan with Shaikh Khalid as our special guest in the attendance”, he concluded. Brave had two previous editions in Bahrain and one each in Brazil, UAE and last month in India.
