Municipality scraps rental fee for citizens

ManamaBahrainis living in rented apartments need not pay the 10 per cent municipal rental fee any more. The Capital Municipal Council has passed a proposal to this effect at a meeting held at the Ministry of Municipalities Hall yesterday.

“The council is aiming to introduce a new mechanism for Bahraini families who do not own a house and reside in rented apartments/villas. Through this proposal, we are trying to reduce living costs and improve the standard of living of citizens,” Vice Chairman of Capital Municipal Council Mazen Ahmad Al-Omran told DT News.

The Municipal Council also made certification mandatory for security guards of parks and walkways. They now have to undergo first aid training courses to make them prepare for emergency situations. There needs to be certified personnel in public spaces to handle emergency situations as the first minutes of the injured is very crucial in saving the life of the individual, say Municipal council members.

The Council also passed a proposal to form a committee to improve the central market.

“The central market has been in existence for 40 years and the council feels that the market needs to be improved. The committee will help coordinate and take necessary steps to improve facilities and fix problems in the market,” said Engineer Al-Omran

The meeting was chaired by Mohammed Ali Alkhozae, Chairman of the Capital of Municipal Council and attended by other members of the council. According to Alkhozae, the council discussed three agendas and unanimously approved all the three.
