Government revamp: Panel to study proposals

Manama : His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday issued directive to form a committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa to study the recommendations and submit proposals on government downsizing. 

The directive was issued at a meeting chaired by HRH Prime Minister who discussed the restructuring of the government and ways to achieve the objectives.

The meeting discussed ways to achieve the goals of the government re-structuring through action plans and executive programmes that will be devised in accordance with the national priorities and a specified schedule to increase productivity of the government apparatus.  

The government will also seek to reduce its large size that is not commensurate with the requirements and challenges of the current phase of economic development in the Kingdom.

HRH Prime Minister also discussed a number of ideas and options to reduce the number of ministries and government departments, and also to merge some of them without affecting the ‘action plan’ to which the government is committed.

The restructuring will be consistent with the economic vision of the Kingdom and its future policies in the midst of the current challenges, particularly on the economic front, HRH Prime Minister said.
