Princess Sabeeka award earns global accolade

ManamaMinister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, yesterday officially announced the launch of the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women Empowerment during the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The announcement was made at the conference, which was attended by Supreme Council for Women Vice President Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al-Khalifa, Hala Al-Ansari, Secretary General of SCW, and Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA) board of trustees’ chairperson Shaikha Haya bint Rashid Al-Khalifa.

“I am pleased to take this opportunity to extend the Kingdom of Bahrain’s thanks and appreciation to UN Women for partnering with the Supreme Council for Women,” said SCW Secretary-General Hala Al-Ansari while delivering the address of the Arab Group “Manama Declaration”, at the inaugural session.

“We are so delighted that the Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award has reached at such a global level”, said Mohammed Hamadi, Director of Media at the Supreme Council of women. 

The delegation also included Bahrain Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Dr. Bahiya Jawad Al-Jishi, Tamkeen Chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al-Khalifa, GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Abdulhussain Jawaheri.

During the conference the Foreign Minister addressed the UN panel, on behalf of HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and SCW President. Further a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the United Nations (UN) Women, on the sidelines of the
conference.
