iGA records 34.5pc jump in Wireless Licensing revenue

ManamaInformation & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Wireless Licensing, Frequency and Monitoring Directorate yesterday reported a 34.53 per cent jump in its 2016 revenues when compared to that of the prior year period. 

This is according to the detailed achievements report for 2016 issued by the authority. The report presented by iGA’s Chief Executive Mohammed Ali AlQaed gives an elaborate account of the achievement attained by the directorate with the support of the telecommunication sectors in the Kingdom. 

While highlighting the various milestones achieved, the report states that the directorate has registered, during the period, the first batch of ground service frequencies of commercial, public and private entities, which accumulates to 1,041 frequencies.

It has also been confirmed that the authority has completed all procedures to register the frequencies with the international Telecommunications Union (ITU) to ensure security and protection of services across the ground service frequencies.

Two new channels

The directorate has registered two new channels in the ITU records for radio service within the Kingdom. 

The report also reveals that the authority has registered 16 additional channels with all involved countries for which the registration is expected during 2017. 

Efforts has also been made to create a unified list of fees and wages for the telecommunications sector as well as raising it to be presented and approved by the Cabinet, the report states. 

Commenting on the report, Ali AlQaed stated that the directorate also sought to enhance the infrastructure of national broadband networks in order to increase its capacity for future expansions and the rapid developments within the ICT sector in Bahrain. 

Meanwhile, iGA’s Wireless Licensing, Frequency and Monitoring Directorate Director Hassan Mohammed Hassan indicated that the purpose of preparing the report is to evaluate and benefit by improving the work as well as employees’ performances. 

Other achievements

Amongst its most prominent achievements, the directorate has complete the second phase of the Frequency Spectrum Control Devices Maintenance Project, in addition to the clearing of numerous frequency bands and its adoption of security, commercial, public and private services. This follows the submission of practical recommendations of dividing amongst these sectors. 

The directorate had also completed drafting a number of regulations for its delivered services. The directorate also continues to deliver a variety of key services for beneficiaries of both the public and private sectors; noting that in 2016, it carried-out 15,989 transactions for 15 main services.
