Woman jailed for ‘self-abortion’
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court has sentenced an Asian maid to one month behind bars on charges of abortion.
The incident was brought to light after police discovered traces of the disposed fetus.
On further enquiry, the woman revealed that her illicit affair with a Bangladeshi man led to the pregnancy.
“I was afraid that the relationship would be discovered, therefore I decided to abort the fetus with the help of my friend,who gave me five pills,” she said. The defendant was charged of aborting fetus without consulting a doctor. She will be deported once she completes her jail term.
