Ministry working round the clock to keep roads dry

ManamaTo contain the flood caused by persistent downpours, the Muharraq Municipality has extracted more than one million gallons of rainwater from the Governorate. 

Municipality officials told DT News that they are working 24/7 to contain flooding in the area. “Around 20 water tankers were tasked to do the suction processes in the Governorate. A total of 1,339 million gallons were extracted and disposed of,” said the officials. 

“We are working round the clock to maintain dry and clean roads.

“We are  also responding to all the complaints and requests made by citizens and residents,” a statement issued by the municipality stated.

The  Municipality received 174 notifications regarding rainwater flooding since Friday afternoon. The authority also  confirmed that its prime concern was on solving issues in residential areas of Arad, Hidd, Galali and Al Hala.

Yesterday’s heavy downpour has caused floods in different parts of the Kingdom, particularly Muharraq Governorate. 

Many videos featuring  heavy floods in multiple alleys and neighbourhoods in Muharraq were shared on the Internet. 

Bahrainis also flooded the social media with complaints, accusing the authorities of incompetence in handling such situations. 

A hashtag ‘Muharraq is drowning’. was trending on Twitter and Instagram.
