Man’s jail term reduced in fake licence

ManamaAn Asian man who tried to obtain a Bahraini driving licence by swapping it with a fake Saudi one has had his jail term reduced on appeal. He was earlier sentenced to three years, but the court reduced it to one year.

He reportedly filed an application at the General Directorate of Traffic, to obtain a Bahraini driving licence, attaching with the document what he had claimed to be his Saudi driving licence.

He was handed the Bahraini driving licence, but he was caught later after the authorities received a tip-off from their Saudi counterparts who discovered the Saudi licence to be fake.

The defendant initially told prosecutors that he was working in Saudi for four years, and his ex-employer gave him the licence without undergoing a driving training. His claims were disregarded.
