Bahrain Awareness Awards: Public voting commences

Manama : More than 20 inspirational photographs, posters and short films made by local talents are vying for the Bahrain Awareness Awards, which will be decided by public voting and a panel of judges.

Young photographers, artists and filmmakers are competing for the second edition of the annual awards. It’s a national competition and a community awareness project, which spreads the message about fair-treatment of foreign employees.

Organised by Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), the competition focused on rights of domestic workers last year. This year, the theme is “Treat them well,” referring to the fact that expatriate workers should be treated with respect and considered as an important part of the society.

“The concept of the awards is to involve the youth, who are an important part of the society, in creating social awareness of expatriates rights. The total prize is $50,000,” LMRA informed in a statement. The competition is divided into three sections- short film, production and design of a poster and LMRA Prize for Artistic Excellence.

“The panel of judges comprises of independent experts in the various categories of the competition and names of the judges will be announced in due course. The judges panel will evaluate the submitted works according to the following standards: Quality and content of the messages, spread and reach of the message, the possibility of using the work and public voting,” it added.

Voting can be done on www.bahrainawards.com. Public voting will be closed on May 15.
