Traffic officers in the dock for cheating insurance companies

Two traffic officers appeared in the dock along with four others, for allegedly cheating insurance companies by forging accident reports involving luxury cars.

The case came to light after the head of the Claims Department in an insurance company tipped a Captain in the General Directorate of Traffic about a suspicious accident report.

The complaint stated that the same report was sent earlier with a different date, and the owner of the car was paid BD23,000.

The second accident report carried a different issurance date, and investigations revealed that the two traffic officers were involved in forging it.

Further investigation revealed that the accidents were deliberately staged to get financial compensations from the insurance companies, as the value of the vehicles were much less than the demanded amounts.

According to court documents, the officers also forged the reason of the accidents, making up different events and circumstances to entitle the owners of the cars eligible to receive reparations.

Their trial was adjourned yesterday until March 31 to hear police witnesses. The accused pleaded not guilty to fraud and forgery charges.
