Strategic Policies to Create Suitable Living Environments

Creating suitable living conditions for communities in the Northern Governorate has been a key focus of the Northern Municipal Council during its sixth term from 2022 to 2026, council chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Ebrahim Al Wedaie said.

He said the council's work aligns with the objectives of World Habitat Day 2026 and its theme, "Adequate Housing for All", which promotes access to safe, affordable housing, basic services and inclusive public spaces.

Al Wedaie said the council's responsibilities under Municipalities Law No. 35 of 2001 include proposing improvements to roads, streets, public areas and beaches, as well as developing parks, recreational facilities and public health measures.

The law also covers local projects involving water, roads, sewerage, lighting, schools, housing, health centres, car parks and other public facilities and services.

He said the council worked closely with government bodies and relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, the Ministry of Works and authorities responsible for housing and electricity.

This cooperation contributed to major road, sewerage and lighting projects, alongside the development of parks and recreational areas. The council also supported the renovation of homes for low-income families, restoration of fire-damaged houses and access to government housing.
