Night Works Face 9pm Cut-Off Call
Night-time building work in residential streets should stop by 9pm after families complained of noise carrying on until dawn, a municipal councillor has said.
Ahmed Al Abdullah, Southern Municipal Council member, called on service bodies and contractors to bring in firm working hours for schemes near homes.
He said residents had lodged many complaints about crews working through the night, with some sites remaining active until the early morning.
The latest complaints concern Noon Street in Block 915, where work has run from 9pm until 5am. Al Abdullah said the noise had disturbed sleep and left families struggling to rest in their own homes.
He accepted that Bahrain’s summer midday work ban can force contractors to shift their hours. But he said the burden should not be passed on to residents at night.
Housing areas, he said, must be treated differently from business or industrial zones because families have a right to peace and privacy.
Al Abdullah called for service bodies to agree working hours with contractors before each scheme begins and to draw up clear rules for sites close to homes.
He said road and public works must be finished without needless delay, but speed should not come at the cost of sleep, calm or family life.
Cutting night noise, he added, should be built into every work plan for residential districts rather than dealt with only after complaints are made.
