10 Years in Prison for Promoting Iran-linked Attacks

The High Criminal Court sentenced two defendants to 10 years in prison each after convicting them of crimes related to supporting and glorifying Iranian terrorist attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The court also ordered each defendant to pay a BD2,000 fine and ruled for the confiscation of seized items.

According to the Chief of the Terror Crimes Prosecution, the verdicts were issued in two separate cases involving social media activity in which the defendants posted images, videos and comments expressing support for and approval of the attacks.

The cases began after the Electronic Crimes Directorate at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security reported two social media accounts containing content that endorsed the attacks targeting Bahrain.

Investigations identified the individuals operating the accounts. Subsequently, the Public Prosecution launched inquiries, questioned the defendants, heard witness statements and assigned technical experts to examine seized electronic devices.

The forensic examination confirmed the investigation's findings, leading to the referral of the cases to the High Criminal Court.
