Defamation case: Trial begins today

The Public Prosecution has referred a man for trial on charges of defaming a ‘sister country’ and misusing the media.

According to a statement issued by the Public Prosecution, the suspect will appear before the Lower Criminal Court, with his trial is scheduled to kick-off today.

Prosecutor Isa Al Manaei said that investigations had revealed that a man had insulted a ‘sister country’ in the media.

“Cases have been charged also for publicly inciting against abiding the laws and regulations in the Kingdom of Bahrain and urging the public to participate in illegal rallies,” he added.

He has been kept in police custody. “The defendant admitted to his crime and he will stand trial before the Lower Criminal Court,” Al Manaei added.
