Saudi Foreign Minister Arrives In Washington For Talks With Rubio

Washington: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Washington, D.C., on Monday, September 28, for a formal visit. He is set to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department. The visit comes amid rising Middle East tensions and escalating security worries over Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement.

According to Saudi Arabia's state news agency, the discussions between Faisal bin Farhan and Rubio will focus on Saudi-US bilateral relations, as well as significant regional and worldwide issues. Saudi authorities have not provided a precise agenda for the meeting.

The talks are taking place in the midst of growing hostilities between Riyadh and the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. Sources stated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman requested US military assistance earlier this month to deal with the Houthi threat. According to sources, Washington refused to carry out strikes but agreed to give intelligence and targeting help.

The summit comes as Washington and Riyadh continue to work together on broader Middle East security and diplomatic concerns. Saudi Arabia and the United States have long-standing strategic links in security, trade, energy, and diplomacy, making high-level talks between their leaders important for regional affairs.

Faisal's visit to Washington follows his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he met with foreign peers to discuss regional and global challenges.
