Bahrain, Qatar Discuss Stronger Arab Parliamentary Coordination and Regional Stability
Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, received Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar and representative of the Arab Group on the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening joint Arab parliamentary action and coordination on issues affecting regional security and stability.
Al Musallam said Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, remains committed to supporting Arab unity and coordinated efforts to protect common interests.
He also welcomed the decision of the Executive Committee of the Arab IPU, during its 43rd session in Egypt, to approve a draft emergency item submitted by Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division for inclusion on the agenda of the 153rd IPU General Assembly in Tanzania.
Al Musallam highlighted the role of Arab parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening consultation and coordination and bringing Arab positions closer on current regional and international issues.
He noted that such efforts can contribute to developing common Arab positions at international forums, including on protecting international maritime corridors and freedom of navigation, while supporting wider efforts to promote security and peace.
