Trap Shooters Begin Asiad Bid

Bahrain’s trap shooters opened their campaigns at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya yesterday, with Saeed Hasan Ali leading the kingdom’s challenge in the men’s competition.
Ali hit 45 of 50 targets across two opening rounds at Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, scoring 23 and 22 to sit 20th in a 41-shooter field.
China’s Qi Ying and Kuwait’s Khaled Almudhaf set the early pace on 49, one ahead of seven shooters tied on 48.
In the women’s competition, Marwa Buarki and Maryam Al Sulaiti both ended day one on 42.
Buarki recorded rounds of 20 and 22 to sit 17th among 27 competitors, while Al Sulaiti opened with 23 before adding 19 to place 20th on countback.
India’s Neeru and Qatar’s Ray Bassil lead on 48.
Qualification continues today from 4am Bahrain time before the trap events reach their decisive stage.
Final qualification rounds begin tomorrow at 4am, followed by the women’s individual final at 8am and men’s final at 9.30am. Team medals in both events will also be decided that day.
The shooting programme concludes on Thursday, when the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol competition reaches its final.
