Hezbollah To Contribute To Housing For War-Displaced Lebanese

Beirut: Hezbollah announced that it will shortly contribute to a new housing project aimed at providing shelter for thousands of Lebanese displaced by the war with Israel.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem announced the plan on September 27, during a speech commemorating the second anniversary of the assassination of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Qassem stated that the organization would provide refuge, restoration, and reconstruction utilizing its existing resources and donations.

He stated that the project's details would be released soon, and that it would primarily benefit people of communities that were entirely destroyed during the fighting. Qassem also stated that the Lebanese government should be responsible for providing shelter, compensation, and overseeing rehabilitation.

The violence has resulted in a severe displacement catastrophe. According to Reuters, more than one million people were forced to flee their homes, with over 340,000 still displaced because their homes were destroyed or their locations were inaccessible.

The declaration comes as Lebanon continues to face significant reconstruction requirements, with tens of thousands of homes damaged or destroyed during the conflict.
