Council Moves to Clean Up Barbar Marina
Fishermen to help remove abandoned boats and cut pollution

The Northern Municipal Council met fishermen and Supreme Council for Environment officials on Sunday to address cleanliness at the Barbar fishermen's channel. Chaired by council chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Al Wedaie, the meeting agreed fishermen would form a monitoring committee to track violations, curb dumping of waste and oil containers, and coordinate with the municipality.
Participants also agreed to remove abandoned boats, regulate fish traps, provide waste containers, and install warning signs along the coast. A further meeting will explore a fishermen-led clean-up of the marina, including removing sand blocking boat movement, to benefit both fishermen and visitors while protecting the coastal environment.
