Foreign Ministry Marks International Day of Women in Diplomacy

Panel highlights achievements of Bahraini women diplomats and Kingdom's commitment to gender equality

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a panel discussion to mark the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, celebrating the achievements of Bahraini women in the diplomatic field and reaffirming the Kingdom's commitment to empowering women in leadership and international affairs.

The event was attended by Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheeri, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights and Chairman of the Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside senior ministry officials, representatives of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain, and women diplomats from Gulf and Arab embassies accredited to the Kingdom.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Dr. Bucheeri highlighted the progress made by Bahraini women in diplomacy, attributing these achievements to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in promoting equal opportunities and expanding women's participation in national development.

He praised the growing contributions of Bahraini women diplomats, particularly members of the Kingdom's delegation to the United Nations Security Council in New York, noting that their participation reflects Bahrain's commitment to providing equal opportunities based on competence, merit and professional excellence.

The panel featured discussions on the experiences of Bahraini women in diplomacy and multilateral engagement, highlighting their role in advancing Bahrain's international presence.

The programme included a recorded address by Ambassador Nancy Abdulla Jamal, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, as well as a panel discussion featuring Ambassador Rana Mohammed Hasan, Director of the Information Systems Directorate, Jehan Al Murbati, Senior Programme Officer at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain, and Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Chief of the Organisations Sector.

The discussion underscored the importance of strengthening women's participation in diplomacy and international cooperation while recognising Bahrain's ongoing efforts to promote gender balance and empower women across all sectors.
