A tender has been issued for the Wahat Muharraq Garden in Galali, Block 255, after follow-up work dating back to 2020.

The Tender Board announced the scheme, put forward by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, moving the long-awaited park closer to the start of building work.

The garden was approved and its designs drawn up during the previous municipal council term. It has now reached the bidding stage.

The park is planned as a public family space with play, sport and leisure areas. It will include a children’s play area, a multi-use football pitch, shaded seating for families, a central square, a decorative fountain, walkways, paved spaces, lawns, trees and other planting.

Plans also include a service building with toilets, a kiosk, a pump room, a water tank, a full irrigation network, lighting, an outer fence, entrances and car parking.

Tender documents will be on sale until 12 July. Bids must be handed in by 26 July.

The work is due to take four months. The document fee is BD50, the initial bond is BD1,000 and bids will be valid for 180 days.

Saleh Jassim Buhazaa, the area’s municipal councillor and vice-chairman of Muharraq Municipal Council, thanked the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, the Tender Board and all other bodies involved.

He said the tender followed years of work since 2020, when the park was approved and planned under the former municipal council.

‘This is one of the schemes that will serve the people of Galali and Block 255,’ he said.

‘It will provide a full family outlet, bringing together leisure, sport and green space, while helping to improve quality of life and provide modern facilities for citizens and residents.’
