Kingdom accuses Iran of violating sovereignty and calls for UN action
Bahrain strongly condemned an Iranian drone attack targeting its territory early Saturday, June 27, 2026, describing it as a violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to citizens and residents.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack represents a breach of international laws and conventions that prohibit targeting civilian areas and endangering innocent lives.
Iran Blamed for Escalation
The ministry said Iran’s continued actions undermine regional and international efforts aimed at reducing tensions, holding Tehran responsible for obstructing peace efforts and threatening regional stability.
It stressed that Bahrain remains committed to peace and security, affirming that aggression and threats will not weaken the Kingdom’s determination or national unity.
Bahrain Seeks Accountability
The ministry highlighted UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), submitted by Bahrain on behalf of GCC states and Jordan and supported by 136 countries, saying Iran’s actions challenge the international consensus.
Bahrain also pointed to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 17, 2026, under which commitments were made to halt military operations and respect the sovereignty of regional states.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its right under international law to defend its sovereignty, security and stability, and called on the UN Security Council to ensure accountability and the implementation of its resolutions.
