Tokyo: Ten people were injured and bullet train services were momentarily disrupted by a magnitude 5.6 earthquake that occurred late Friday close to Japan's Mount Fuji, according to authorities.

At 10:28 p.m. local time, Yamanashi Prefecture experienced an earthquake that registered a lower 6 on Japan's seven-level seismic intensity scale in Fujikawaguchiko Town. No significant structure damage, fires, or tsunami threat were reported, according to officials, and all injuries were minor.

The earthquake occurred across central and eastern Japan, including the Tokyo metropolitan area. Tokaido Shinkansen services between Tokyo and Shizuoka were temporarily suspended, impacting around 22,000 passengers before operations resumed early Saturday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that the earthquake was not related to volcanic activity at Mt. Fuji and claimed that there was no increased risk of an eruption. Authorities have warned locals to be cautious, as aftershocks and landslides remain a risk in the impacted areas.
