The Indian Community Welfare Association - ICRF Bahrain has launched its annual summer awareness campaign, “Thirst Quenchers 2026,” aimed at promoting health and safety among outdoor workers during the peak summer months.
The initiative is being carried out in line with the summer heat safety measures introduced by the Ministry of Labour Bahrain, which began on June 15, 2026, to ensure safe working conditions across the Kingdom. The campaign also receives support from the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
As part of the programme, volunteers will distribute water, juice, laban, and fresh fruits including oranges, apples, and bananas at various worksites across Bahrain throughout the summer.
The campaign was officially inaugurated on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Cebarco worksite in Zallaq, where around 500 workers took part in the launch event.
During the ceremony, ICRF General Secretary Mr. Aneesh Sreedharan welcomed guests and dignitaries from the Ministry of Labour, LMRA, and Cebarco. The event was attended by Mr. Husain Al Hussaini, Senior Occupational Safety Engineer at the Ministry of Labour; Mr. Fahad Abdulaziz Al Bin Ali, Director of Partnerships and Outreach at LMRA; and Mr. Jose Pediakal, Director of Finance at Cebarco.
ICRF Chairman Adv. V. K. Thomas praised the continued efforts of government bodies in enhancing worker welfare and ensuring safe working environments during extreme summer conditions. ICRF Advisor Dr. Babu Ramachandran also addressed the gathering, highlighting key health and safety precautions workers should follow during high-temperature months.
Now in its 11th consecutive year since its launch in 2016, the “Thirst Quenchers” campaign continues to focus on raising awareness about hydration and heat stress prevention. The initiative includes weekly visits to multiple worksites across the Kingdom throughout the summer.
This year’s programme is coordinated by Mr. Chemban Jalal and Ms. Ruchi Chakrabarthy, with continued support from community volunteers, including strong participation from the Bohra community, who have consistently contributed to the success of the campaign over the years.
