Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Maawda, issued Decision No. (47) of 2026 concerning documents that may be notarized in English. This allows the notarization of certain documents, authentication of signatures, and certification of dates in English when requested by the concerned parties, unless another law specifically requires notarization in Arabic.
The decision stipulates that documents, signature authentications, and date certifications falling within the scope of Decree-Law No. (14) of 1971 on Notarization may be processed in English based on the preference of the concerned parties.
The decision excludes cases where any other law requires documents to be notarized in Arabic. Therefore, the option of notarization in English does not apply to documents that must legally be drafted or notarized in Arabic.
The new decision was issued after reviewing Decree-Law No. (14) of 1971 on Notarization and its amendments, its Executive Regulations, and Decision No. (78) of 2017 concerning documents that may be notarized in the English language and its subsequent amendments.
