Two in the dock in drug case

A 52-year-old Bahraini man along with a Thai woman is facing trial for attempting to smuggle one kilogram of shabu. The latter is in her thirties, and both of the defendants are set to be kept in police custody for seven days, pending investigations.

The Thai woman is said to have smuggled the quantity of the narcotic substance at the request of the Bahraini man. Investigations revealed that the 52-year-old was recruiting foreigners to bring drugs to Bahrain in his favour.

He was booking hotel rooms and welcome them upon their arrival. The Thai woman said during interrogations that her co-defendant requested her to bring a bag for him, denying she was aware of what was stored in it.  “I got acquainted with him in Thailand. We went to several places together, and he was buying gifts for me. He kept a bag with me, and asked me to bring it to Bahrain,” the woman said.

The Bahraini man initially denounced the woman, but later admitted to stashing the shabu in the bag. According to police records, the 52-year-old had served five years in prison for peddling shabu.
