‘Bahrain making strong progress in education sector’
Manama
Improvements are being made to Bahrain’s educational sector to attract foreign students and to take the sector to its “next stage”, officials from Higher Education Council (HEC) and Qualifications and Quality Assurance for Education and Training (QQA) stated.
In its study titled National Higher Education Strategy 2014-24, HEC stated Bahrain aims to become the “foremost student-friendly, quality-focused higher education destination in the GCC.”
“Bahrain has a confident education sector, even though the QQA is fairly young. There is a strong desire to build capacity for quality assurance and spread the culture of awareness. Keeping a tab on the quality ranking of our schools is a prerequisite to improve their quality. Strong progress has been made since the first rankings, as parents, students and teachers pushed for improvement,” said QQA CEO Jawaher Al Mudhahki.
Echoing a similar view, Applied Science University (ASU) Vice-President for Administrative and Financial Affairs and Community Engagement Saad Darwish said, “Huge progress is being made by the Higher Education Review Unit of the QQA. Formally performing quality assurance checks will help bring students from the rest of the Gulf and elsewhere.”
