Taiwanese delegation hails Bahrain's biz environment

Manama

The business environment of Bahrain has become more open to foreign businessmen with the relaxation of trade barriers in the recent past, said Representative of the Trade Mission of Taiwan in Bahrain Michael T Chen.

Speaking to DT News after a one-to-one trade meeting between Bahraini companies and Taiwanese trade mission, he said relaxation in e-visa policies by the Bahraini government had changed the business environment in the Kingdom.

“After finishing meetings at Riyadh, Dammam and Jubail, our delegation came here via King Fahd Causeway, using multiple entry visa,” he said.

He said Taiwan is looking to extend its base in Bahrain especially in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), products related to green energy and mechanical equipment.

Bahrainis are also showing interest to open their branches in Taiwan, he said, adding many people from the Kingdom had been in touch with the sovereign state in East Asia. “Many Bahraini businessmen know Taiwan very well,” he said.

CEO of Meunity Consulting Company Abdulaziz Qambar said he is looking forward to open a company in association with Taiwanese companies. “Bahrain could be an entry point for Taiwanese companies to enter the vast Saudi market. Our aim is to partner a Taiwanese company to explore Saudi and Bahraini markets,” he said.

Qambar added ICT companies and other hi-tech firms of Taiwan would have a good market in Bahrain.

Project Manager in the Market Development Department of Taiwan External Trade Development Council Abraham Lin said Bahrain could be a hub for traders to sell the hi-tech products to East Europe, Central Asia, Middle East, South Europe, South Asia and North Africa. He also noted Taiwan could extend its business networks to these areas through Bahrain.

Earlier, Chairman of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Khalid Almoayyed inaugurated the one-to-one trade meeting, in the presence of Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs, Nader K Almoayyed.
